Who is a real ‘friend’?

Posted on April 17, 2023

We all know friends plays a very important role in our life, but still we are here with no/ less friends, so let’s understand who is a friend.

Before knowing about making friends, lets first understand who is a friend?

If I ask you who is a friend, from your experience you may say,

  • friend is someone who will be there in any situation
  • Care for me
  • Help me in difficult situation
  • he/she is an emotional support
  • helps me to grow
  • makes me happy
  • helps me and guides me

I too thought same as like you, but my friend made me question who really is a friend?. Because according to him, friend is someone who is there to satisfy or fulfill his needs and his statement was like, without a need, why should I be with you?

(you may not going to like the upcoming content) This question, take us to a next understand that, every relationship is based on the need. There is no relationship without a need. We usually talk to someone when there is a need. Let’s see one by one

  • Mother satisfy our love, care, food, emotional needs
  • Father satisfy our security, economy, knowledge, guidence needs
  • Grandparents satisfy our need for love and enjoyment
  • Friend satisfy our need for conversation, expressing, playing, sharing, emotional support, adventure, economy, travelling, support etc., it goes on

Likewise for each and every relatioship, there will be some need. This was his understanding. It is generalization. Don’t let anyone fool you with this stupid justification

At one perspective it feels like, relationship are based on need satisfaction, we human beings be with another human to satisfy our needs, yes it is true. But for a relationship there are more to it

Here comes the slightest difference, purposefully making relationship to satisfy your need is different from getting your needs get satisified naturally by that relationship.

A relatioship don’t necessarily have to satisfy your needs, But you have to be aware of people who just be with your for their advantage, those are fake realtionship. Build true friends

For a relatioship to exist there are more reasons, connections, understanding and a lot to it.

A true friend does not make you question why this relatioship exist. It let both of the people to respect, love, accept each other for life long.
